Dr. Raymond Stein of Bochner Eye Institute explains the unique advantages of using the femtosecond laser in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange (RLE) surgery. Specifically, Dr. Stein and his colleagues have found that the laser creates precise openings in the capsule that holds the natural lens, fragments the lens using less energy than traditional instruments and makes accurate microincisions in the cornea to reduce astigmatism.
