2014 Volkswagen Vento TDI Video Description
Following the footsteps of its little sibling Polo, the Vento too gets a refreshed look. Volkswagen has adopted the philosophy of share and rule and with Vento getting new face and new skin, the automaker has now has a clear shot in marking its name in the Indian auto sector. Volkswagen Vento comes in the mid-size sedan segment and lock horns with Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Renault Scala.
We drove the Vento TDi to explore what’s good and bad in the car.

Exterior
The exterior boasts of chrome linings on front grill and rear along with the manufacturer’s logo and TSi/TDi badge. At the front, the car boasts twin chrome salted grills, chrome strip on airdams, fog lamps for better illumination, sporty blackened headlamps. The side profile features 15-inch SPOKANE alloy wheels while the rear gets lookalike LED tail-lamp cluster and chrome strip on boot.

Interior
Step inside and you get a feel of premiumness as the car gets dual interior, chrome inserts on A/C vents and updated infotainment system. The music system comes with USB, AUX-IN and SD Card connectivity with controls designed ergonomically that keeps driver’s focus right on the road. The three-spoke steering wheel gets both tilt and telescopic option for better adjustment. Answering a phone call or changing the music track was never so easy as the controls are given right on the steering wheel. Adding more comfort, are the electrically adjustable power mirrors, intelligent Climatronic air-conditioning, front armrest and many more.

Engine
The Vento TDi is powered by 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TDI Engine which is good enough to develop a max power of 103bhp @ 4400rpm and peak torque of 250 Nm @ 1500-2500rpm. The engine is mated to 7-Speed DSG gearbox which ensure quick and smooth transmissions. If one wants to have a feel of manual gearbox, the Tiptronic option on the gearbox can be used. After the Skoda Rapid, Vento is the only car which offers 7-Speed DSG gearbox in its segment.

Ride and Handling
The 1.5-litre TDI engine is quick to respond and Sports mode on the gearbox adds fun to driving. The suspensions are good enough to absorb small pot holes but when it comes to rough road, the jitters can be felt inside the cabin. The car can easily touch the 100kmph mark with minimal turbo lag. The electronic steering wheel is easy to handle and works with just a flick of a finger. The turning radius is small and boon for those driving in narrow places.

Verdict
With premium interiors, fuel efficient engine and smooth gearbox, the Vento TDi definitely defines its price tag. The only problem is its stiff suspension which does not perform well on the rough patches. But, on the whole, the Volkswagen Vento is value for money, and definitely a car for you if you are looking in the range of Rs 10.70 lac to Rs 11 lac.
