H بين बैन bain, बयन bayan [Prk. वयणं; S. वचनं], s.m. Sound, word, speech, saying ( = bānī); weeping, lamenting (for the dead); lamentation, wailing.

The date and venue of this performance are not known, alas but if I had to hazard a guess I'd estimate it to be from before this performance in what was then Madras, 1983:    • Bhimsen Johsi | Jhinjhoti | पिया बिन ...  

This thumri is apparently what led to Bhimsen Joshi becoming a singer. He heard Abdul Karim Khan's legendary rendition    • Abdul Karim Khan | Jhinjhoti | पिया ब...  , as he has recounted himself, and was so taken by it that he wanted to learn how to sing like that and eventually ran away from home in search of a guru, wandering till he finally found Sawai Gandharava, AKK's main disciple.
