~A Quick Guide to Crown Hunting~
1. The most important thing is to make sure you choose the right quest and for that use https://mhrise.kiranico.com .

2. For the hunt, you'll need a Sleep LBG/HBG armor-set or dogs/cats with sleep weapon equipped, Mega Bombs and possibly a Shock Traps/Para ammo. Bring also some spare materials to craft these items in case something unexpected happen.

3.The most basic way to crown hunt is to simply sleep and measure the monster with mega bomb on a flat surface. An additional things that you can do is to also measure (mostly) the monster's hind leg with a shock trap.

4. Extra things that i usually do, are to focus on landscape and the monster undisturbed activities. For example, i make a comparison of the monster size with nearby wall or a fixed object. The reason for this is to create an estimation of how big or small a crown size monster will be. You can also get an estimation by standing next to the monster legs. The only tricky part for this estimation is the camera's angle. A perfect angle is the angle where you don't see the top of a mega bomb. Why i do this? Just to crown hunt faster. That's all.

UPDATE:
With the new 10% and 6% rate, you don't really have to the estimation part (4). Shock trap as an estimation is sufficient except for Elder dragon.
