Nothing more depressing than starting your grow season off with a sprout massacre. If you are sprouting your seeds outside where birds could reach them - you must cover your sprouts with some sort of barrier... or be prepared to cry.

Also - finally have some nice comfrey starts going. We plant to have a robust comfrey patch going soon where we can harvest the comfrey for composting and making jadam and teas.

AND - some of these sacred cactus cuts are starting to root - YAY!

Consuming medicinal spirit plants is cool - but growing them may actually be even more therapeutic!

When growing with intention at a small craft scale, the plants really are more like pets where the human and plants build relationships... this is not mindless industrial factory farming where the human exploits the plants as a soulless commodity... small scale craft farming is a state of mind where the human is involved in a mutually beneficial and respectful symbiotic relationship with the plants... yes, the human will eventually harvest the plants, but cannabis is an ANNUAL plant that is designed to die at the end of flowering season - so the human really is not murdering the plants - I like to think of it as the plant is similar to a mother spider who soon dies after hatching her eggs, and the final act of of contributing to the cycle of life and her offspring is to surrender her body for her babies to consume...

As a human on our farm, I happily harvest and consume the medicines our plants offer as their final act, and I continue their genetic lines by mindfully selecting their seeds and sharing them with other humans to spread the plant love :)
