The story of how Shakespeare's Globe was brought back to life. Upon his first visit to London in 1949, Sam Wanamaker realised that there was scant recognition of the first and second incarnation of William Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, which existed from 1599 to 1644. From that day on, his dream was to recreate the Globe on London's south bank.

He launched the Shakespeare's Globe Trust in 1970, and his dream was to eventually come true by 1997, but sadly he never saw the completion of the theatre, having died in December 1993.

Clip taken from This Wooden O, broadcast on BBC One, dated Tuesday 24 April 1984.
