Open your document: Launch Microsoft Word and open the document you want to add page numbers to.

Insert a Section Break: Place your cursor at the end of the page where you want the numbering to start (or at the beginning of the page where you want to change the numbering format). Go to the "Layout" or "Page Layout" tab in the ribbon, then click on "Breaks" in the "Page Setup" group. Select "Next Page" under the "Section Breaks" section.

Linking and unlinking sections: If you want different numbering styles in different sections, you'll need to unlink them. To do this, double-click on the footer or header of the page where you want to change or add page numbers. This will activate the header/footer area. In the "Header & Footer Tools" Design tab that appears, deselect "Link to Previous" (this is in the Navigation group).

Insert Page Numbers: With the header/footer area activated, click on "Page Number" in the "Header & Footer" group on the "Insert" tab. Choose the position and format for the page numbers. If you want page numbers to start from 1 in the new section, select "Format Page Numbers" and choose "Start at" and set it to 1.

Editing page numbers in different sections: If you have different sections with different numbering styles, you may need to go to each section separately and follow the steps above to customize the page numbering.

Check the formatting: After inserting page numbers, it's a good idea to review your document to ensure that the numbering appears as expected on each page. You may need to adjust the positioning or format of the page numbers if necessary.
