Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked the 82 Division Task Force Battalion base in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA of Borno State, abducting more than 100 women and children as homes and businesses were burned. The group also claimed a raid on Kirshinga, a Christian village in Adamawa State, where survivors were reportedly told to convert to Islam, pay Jizya, or face death.

The violence has drawn international attention, with United States Congressman Riley Moore condemning the attacks as targeted religious persecution and calling for stronger protections for Nigerian Christians.
In Taraba State, a devastating fire destroyed St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Wukari, the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Wukari. Early reports point to a possible electrical fault, though some social media users have alleged arson as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian soldier, Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan of the 81st Division Task Force Battalion in Maiduguri, has reportedly been detained after posting a video urging politicians to allow their own children enlist in the Nigerian Army and Police. The soldier was arrested earlier in February and is reportedly being held without access to legal representation.

In Lagos, two separate developments have sparked concern about social welfare and justice. A primary school teacher identified as Mrs Rukayat says she faces life imprisonment over allegations she defiled a three-year-old pupil in 2021. She claims she suffered a miscarriage while in detention and has appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for intervention, insisting she is innocent.

At the same time, a viral video shared by content creator Somto Okonkwo has highlighted widespread homelessness and drug abuse among young men living along a railway corridor near Oshodi. Another disturbing clip showing Almajiri children allegedly inhaling a glue-like substance known as “Sholisho” has also sparked outrage online, raising renewed concerns about child neglect and substance abuse.

Meanwhile, NAFDAC Director-General Professor Mojisola Adeyeye has warned about the dangers of alcohol consumption among young people, a statement that has generated mixed reactions across social media.
On leadership and social responsibility, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on women in leadership positions to mentor girls from disadvantaged backgrounds while encouraging young women to dress modestly. She made the remarks during an interfaith breakfast in Abuja.
