Blends and digraphs are two phonics skills that are often taught together to kids. They both involve combinations of letters, but they differ in how those letters sound when spoken

In a blend, each letter retains its individual sound, but these sounds are blended together. So you can still hear each of the individual sounds. For example, in the word "brag", you can still hear the individual /b/ and /r/ sounds in the "br" blend. Blends can appear at the beginning or the end of words. Common consonant blends include bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fl, fr, gl, gr, pl, pr, tr, and tw.
More examples are - black, brick, clip, crow, flag, frog, glow, grain etc.

A digraph is a two-letter combination that represents a single sound (phoneme). Digraphs can be made up of two consonants or two vowels, while blends are only made up of consonants. Unlike blends, digraphs create a unique sound that is different from the sounds of the individual letters.
For example, in the word "shed," the s and h work together to make the /sh/ sound.
Common digraphs include ch, sh, th, ph, and wh.
