The Voice of Hind Rajab Review by Sucharita- The horror of the day, of this evening, is so vast, her camera doesn’t even NEED to go to the location of the murder for viewing comprehension. She assumes we have seen enough in these last 2 years to draw an accurate picture in our minds of the destroyed landscape where the little girl is trapped. Through the film’s 1.5-hour run-time, we stay inside three rooms of the PRCS: one where the calls are coming in, another where a supervisor can be seen through glass walls making outgoing calls begging for safe passage for ambulances, and a side room where dispatchers are allowed to speak with a counsellor briefly when things get too much for them to handle. As she frantically moves her camera between these three spaces, her message is clear – this film is only technically categorised as fiction because the subjects of the story are dead. Bending the lines between drama and documentary, Ben Hania uses Hind Rajab’s original voice as the dispatchers collect information. There are over 70 minutes of recorded audio that the filmmaker has said she heard from this day, and I suspect most, if not all of it, can be heard in the film too. To drive her point even further home, she superimposes video footage the teams shot on their own mobile phones while talking to Hind. In cleverly choreographed scenes, you see actors play out their parts as a mobile phone hovers in the frame playing footage from the actual day, matching the dramatization frame by frame. The urgency of this moment is so complete, you forget to breathe, you forget to cry, for a moment you might even forget Hind was murdered, clinging to a maniacal hope that the paramedics will get to her—until you hear the final gunshot and realize: this film is only technically categorized as fiction because the subjects of the story are dead.

The Voice of Hind Rajab (Arabic: صوت هند رجب, romanized: Ṣawt Hind Rajab) is a 2025 docudrama film[3] written and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. It follows the killing of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who lived in the Gaza Strip and was killed by the IDF during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip.
