In this guitar tutorial, I’ll teach you how to play Flake by Jack Johnson, one of his most loved and laid back acoustic songs. I actually chose to teach this after a viewer request, and it really took me back to my early days of learning guitar. Back then, barre chords felt impossible, and this was one of the songs that pushed me to stick with it. In the lesson, I’ll show you how to play all the parts you need, from the smooth rhythm and chord progressions to the signature groove that gives Flake its beachy feel. It’s a great tune for players wanting to strengthen their barre chord technique while learning a classic from the early 2000s acoustic era. An interesting fact about Flake is that it was Jack Johnson’s debut single, and Ben Harper actually played slide guitar on the original recording.
