HoN was a copy version of the classic Dota game, before Dota 2. Compare to Dota 2 and LoL, it was a more closer representation of the original Dota, the gameplay and mechanic felt more responsive than Dota 2 but not too unrealistic like LoL. HoN was an improve version of the original Dota, an alternative to Dota 2 and LoL.

The protagonist in video was me playing with random online players. Like everyone else, I was trying to have fun during my limited free time, but ridiculous and toxic players just keep making me frustrated and lost match after matches. Some might says "hah, skill issue", to that I reply that I have played HoN since late 2010, not e-sport level pro, but still I have played countless competitive matches and unranked (casual) matches, I know a bit how, I know when is serious gameplay and what is a casual play. However, during the record of this video, there were not much skilled players left to play with either (they have moved on to Dota 2 or other game). I wanted to play serious, a serious and honor game match, but the HoN community that time just could not be taken seriously.

Frustrated, and due to poor game policy and systems design, I could not do much about it (once joining a random match, I could not simply leave and abandon it without getting banned). Thus I had to find another way to have fun instead of wasting precious time. The game is now no more, shutdown forever, most likely due to toxic and ridiculous players like those I had to dealt with (and those comments in this video you might see too). Do not put all the blame on me, I could not single handedly solve the long lasting issue of this game, I did my best to not to ruin it.

HoN had always have many toxic players, poor ranking system, report system that was easy to abuse ruining the game and turned players away. In its late years, S2 shutdown servers in many if not all Western regions and handover HoN to Frostburn Studios which hosted exclusively in Garena. Frostburn did manage to make some improvement and new in-game features, but it was too late, and the existing issues were still persist, which make the Dota 2 and even the newer Mobile Legends seems like better alternative to veteran and new players.

In the last few month of HoN, most its in-game skins and items were made available to purchase via in-game coins with up-to 90% discount, and all game matches gave 20x~50x the coins reward, signaling to everyone that the game is soon no more. In its last moment, it gave everyone a final party, but also make everyone's hard earned rank and items worthless. RIP HoN.

At the end, the in-game items I earned and could not earn, the hard work rank I earned and could not earn, it does not matter now. Yet still, it was very frustrating especially I had to play with random online players with ridiculous behaviors. I guess what we learn is never give too much time and effort into any game, they are never real to begin with, always stay back to real life and focus on what is matter in our life instead.
