The Christmas chill is on the way out, giving way to a warmer new year.
The normal high for this time of year is 53 degrees, and we'll be above that for the rest of the week.
"It's really going to be feeling nice outside," said WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell. "It's going to feel so much warmer than a 60-degree high normally would since we've been dealing with such cold temperatures."

Thursday is going to be a bright and breezy day, with lots of sunshine and a high of 61 degrees. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will see highs in the 60s, and Sunday – the first day of 2023 – could reach 71 degrees.

Friday will be even warmer, with highs in the low 60s. We may see a stray shower late Friday night, but the bulk of the rain won't be coming until Saturday afternoon.

On New Year's Eve rain is expected to move in by the early afternoon Saturday and will last until about midnight.

Saturday's weather will be warm enough for outdoor activities at WRAL First Night, the downtown Raleigh New Year's celebration, but some rain may fall with the acorn to begin the New Year.

If you're traveling this weekend, be aware that Saturday could be soggy. "The bulk of it looks like it would happen during the day and last into the early evening hours," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze. "There could be a few isolated thunderstorms along with the chance for rain."
Some rain may linger Saturday around midnight for the acorn drop. So plan for showers during WRAL's First Night celebration.

A morning shower can't be ruled out for Sunday morning, but mostly sunny skies return for the afternoon.

Sunday will be a warm welcome, with temperatures forecasted to reach 70 degrees, although it could end up being a bit cooler in the upper 60s. The long-term forecast looks warm as well as signs indicate that the above normal temperatures will last into the new year.
"Looking at the first week of January, above normal temperatures are expected. We're talking about 60s and perhaps even 70s for parts of our state," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said. "This warm air could stick around at least through the 10th of the month , so it looks like winter is on hiatus."
