The protection of healthcare from cybersecurity attacks is at a cross roads where organized crime and sophisticated nation state cyber military espionage units are now actively targeting our hospitals and patients. They are out, not just to steal medical research and other intellectual property, or the PHI and PII of patients, but also to extort our health systems with ransomware that shuts down health IT systems such that patients cannot be diagnosed or treated.

If that wasn’t enough to keep Healthcare leaders awake at night, then there’s a far more nefarious concern in that new malware and other attack software is beginning to use artificial intelligence (AI) to get by existing cyber defenses and to emulate humans perfectly so as to go unnoticed. New forms of CEO Fraud are one example of just such an attack. With our existing tools now inadequate against these types of attack, we really need to evaluate our defensive capability and look for AI based defensive tools that can identify offensive AI based attack vectors and inoculate the network instantaneously. Decisions need to be made instantaneously to prevent the establishment of footholds on our networks or for malware to spread laterally across networks.
