O'pen Skiff - 2022 World Championships - DAY02

Days follow one another and look similar on the Lake of Carcans Maubuisson with always wonderful conditions of sun and wind! As on the first day, the thermic came up at the beginning of the afternoon when the racers went on the water and reached up to 15 knots on the water. As a result, 4 races were held each day in the 3 categories. The water is very technical with long gusts and short passages of light airs, and there were some very strong wind shifts. In this little game of tactical racing, the podium candidates are showing up at the top of the provisional rankings. After these two days of racing, it is also time to split the largest U15 category (153 racers!) in two with a Gold group and a Silver group for the rest of the Championship. On land, the atmosphere is very friendly and the countries exchange their thoughts and experiences on the water. The U12 group made a strong impression with a good technical level and the smiles on most of the faces show the pleasure of the youngest to race together with the new small sail.

U12 : French team is doing well with two sailors (Charles Ganivet from Créteil and Clara Zunquin from Royan) at the first two places followed by Italian Irene Cozzolino. Because of the points difference with the next competitors, these three have all the chances to finish on the podium.
U15 : In the most important category of the U15, the Polish competitors created the surprise and "dethroned" the Italians and French, who were used to the first places. This team, which has been growing very fast for several seasons, has two runners at the head of the race with Piotr Trella and Julianna Ponto. One point behind, we find a French rider, the regional Thimothe Lesniak from Cazaux Lac.
U17 : In the older age group, the U17s, Italian Guillo Siracusa took the lead, but his lead is still fragile ahead of Poland's Piotr Kutzniarski who is a few points behind. The French rider Timothe Brisson is ranked 3rd in front of another French a few points behind. The weather is very favorable for the next few days. Next start today at 2pm for 3 rounds to follow.

Les jours se suivent et se ressemblent sur le Lac de Carcans Maubuisson avec toujours de magnifiques conditions de soleil et de vent ! Comme au premier jour, le thermique s’est levé en début d’après-midi quand les coureurs sont partis sur l’eau et il est monté jusqu’à 15 nœuds au large sur le plan d’eau. Résultat, 4 manches se sont enchainées chaque jour dans les 3 catégories. Le plan d’eau est très technique avec de longues risées qui alternent avec de courtes périodes plus molles et des adonnantes ou refusantes très marquées se succèdent. A ce petit jeu de la régate tactique, les prétendants aux podiums apparaissent progressivement en haut des classements provisoires. Après ces deux jours de course, c’est également le moment de scinder la plus grande catégorie des U15 (153 coureurs !) en deux avec un groupe Gold et un groupe Silver pour la suite du Championnat. A terre, l’ambiance est très amicale et les pays échangent leurs impressions et récits d’aventures sur l’eau. Le groupe des U12 fait forte impression avec un bon niveau technique et les sourires affichés sur la plupart des visages montrent le plaisir des plus jeunes à régater ensemble avec la nouvelle petite voile.

U12 : Les Français font fort avec deux coureurs (Charles Ganivet de Créteil et Clara Zunquin de Royan) aux deux premières places suivis par l’Italienne Irene Cozzolino. Vu l’écart de points avec les suivants, ces trois coureurs ont toutes les chances de figurer sur le podium.
U15 : Dans la catégorie reine des moins de 15 ans, ce sont les coureurs polonais qui créent la surprise et détrônent les Italiens et Français, habitués aux premières places. Cette équipe qui grossit très vite depuis plusieurs saisons affiche donc deux coureurs en tête de la course avec respectivement Piotr Trella et Julianna Ponto. A un point derrière, on trouve un Français, le régional Thimothe Lesniak de Cazaux Lac.
U17 : Chez les plus grands, les U17, c’est l’Italien Guillo Siracusa qui a pris le commandement, mais son avance reste fragile devant le Polonais Piotr Kutzniarski en embuscade à quelques points derrière. Le Français Timothe Brisson se classe 3e devant un autre français à quelques petits points derrière. La météo est très favorable pour les prochains jours. Prochains départs aujourd’hui à 14 h pour 3 manches à suivre.
