WHAT'S HAPPENED HERE? VAN LIFE IN GERMANY: BEAUTY vs DEVASTATION

Vanlife in Germany has shown us so much already, and this week, as we travel in our campervan through the country, we discover an unbelievably beautiful town straight out of a fairytale, before heading into the Harz mountains National Park, where we find a region that has been devastated by something causing widespread death of the trees here.

We have also since learned that the death of the trees has been exacerbated by potential climate change: drier summers and stronger storms mean the trees are more likely to fall, and as such it's created the perfect conditions for the bark beetle to thrive.

We also do a bit of campervan cooking using a cheap and cheerful recipe involving a can of mushroom soup, because we have to eat or we'll perish, and with our limited cooking set up, any new ideas are welcomed with open mouths. And we also eventually find ourselves on a wonderful free aire at the base of the Harz mountains, all the while dealing with the rain that seems to be constant at the moment across Europe. Vanlife: it's certainly never boring!
