When you apply for a loan the bank or the financial institution asks you for bank statements, salary slips and KYC details among other things. Once they get these the bank gets credit reports and does an internal analysis and decides whether or not you are eligible for a loan. This is called Credit Underwriting
Similarly when you apply for health insurance the company asks for your lifestyle details(smoking,drinking habits), your ailment details and past surgery details
Basis this the company decides if you are eligible for health insurance and if yes how much would you get
This is called Medical Underwriting
