Hyperspirituality, that pathognomonic sign of mania, must be as old the species. Is there evidence of hyperspiritual behavior in ancient civilizations? In this video I postulate that the major world religions themselves were pioneered by, and a direct result of the lives of, great individuals, de facto prophets for whom the voice of "GOD" rang louder than for the rest of us, who inspired multitudes...and whose behavior as recounted in various Holy Scriptures bears a striking resemblance to some manic individuals today, who set aside their worldly possessions to adopt an itinerant life of prayer and proselytization, enjoining others to do the same.

Experienced psychonauts who use hallucinogens and psychotomimetic substances like LSD, peyote and psilocin know how it feels to shed the boundaries of ego and spacetime to glimpse Nirvana. Are they psychotic (as the term psychotomimetic denotes), or are they experiencing an alternate reality of equal–or greater–validity, one that we are normally shielded from directly experiencing by our human brains?
