Solo Winter Camping at my Bushcraft Shelter - Dutch Oven Mule Deer Roast - Camp Deadhorse

Описание к видео Solo Winter Camping at my Bushcraft Shelter - Dutch Oven Mule Deer Roast - Camp Deadhorse

In this new video, my dog Naomi and I head back out to my recently finished bushcraft camp, Camp Deadhorse. After a short walk in and finding that the camp and gear I had packed in was in good shape, I got to work building a fire (which Naomi graciously helped with) and melting snow so the dog and I would have a source of water. Once the fire had burned down, I cleared an area beside the fire-pit, moved some coals over, and set my dutch oven on them to start heating up. I seasoned a shank I had butchered off my mule deer from last fall with a homemade spice blend, and threw it in the pot to slow cook. While the shank cooked, I cleared off a fallen pine tree and used my axe and bucksaw to cut in a nice flat surface to use as a cutting board for the onion, potato, carrot, and garlic I had brought out. Once the meat was done, I cut up the veggies and threw them into the pot to with some water so they could steam, and the end result was a delicious venison and vegetable pot roast - not bad for my first time cooking in a dutch oven. The dog and I spent the rest of the night relaxing, cutting wood, drying gear, and getting dripped on from our leaky roof. The next morning I set the dutch oven on the fire to reheat last night's dinner, and melted more snow for some medium roast cowboy coffee. After eating breakfast, I got to work prepairing camp for the next time I was out. I dropped a few small trees with my bucksaw, and after dragging them to camp and bucking them up, I split the biggest rounds out of the pile. I stacked the wood in the shelter's built-in woodrack that runs below the log bed, and then spent the rest of the day cleaning up. Over all the camp was great (aside from a leaky roof due to a bear putting holes in the tarp), and I'm looking forward to my next trip out there.

Thanks for watching,
- Nicholas
