The Korean government has slammed Japan for making yet more territorial claims to Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo.
Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida made the claims during a speech to the Japanese parliament on Friday.
Seoul's Foreign Ministry responded by saying that Tokyo should stop making false claims about the islets that are Korean territory historically, geographically and under international law.
This comes as the Japanese Olympic Committee has reportedly lodged a complaint with the IOC over Korea's decision to mark Dokdo on the official website of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Kyodo News Agency says Japan has sent messages to the IOC and the Korean Olympic Committee to ask for the website to be revised.
It says the inclusion of Dokdo violates the Olympic Charter, which bans political declarations.
Japan has made repeated territorial claims to Dokdo since the end of its colonial rule of Korea in 1945.
Its latest claim is being seen as a way to make it seem as if Dokdo is part of a territorial dispute.
