Why do some stars explode in a luminous supernova while others do not?Join us for a presentation all about exploding stars and how we simulate them on computers. We'll hear from David Vartanyan, a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Observatories working in the field of supernovae.

Dr. David Vartanyan is a theoretical astrophysicist at the Carnegie Observatories. He received his PhD from Princeton before pursuing a postdoctoral research position at UC Berkeley and then joining Carnegie Observatories as an esteemed NASA Hubble Fellow. Next month, he will begin a position as a professor at University of Idaho. David's research focuses on the lives and deaths of massive stars. He uses supercomputers to model the physics of their cores and the details of their explosions as they eject material and illuminate their environments.
