Pavement parking is a growing issue across the country – blocking access for wheelchair users, parents with buggies, and older people, and in some cases even preventing emergency vehicles from getting through.

Marie took part in a recent Westminster Hall debate and gave an example of how this was affecting Chelmsford residents. She called on the Government to give local authorities the power to act. Currently, only the police can enforce pavement parking laws, but they’re rightly focused on more serious crimes.

Local organisations like the South Essex Parking Partnership are ready to help, but they don’t currently have the authority to issue fines unless specific restrictions are in place.

It’s time to change the law and give councils the tools they need to tackle dangerous, obstructive parking.
