Application: The Rugged Ridge Spartacus HD tire carrier kit fits all 2007 – 2017 JK Wranglers. The kit is designed to replace the weak, thin factory tailgate hinge with a more solidly built system. The kit also includes an equally tough tire carrier to replace the thing factory tire carrier. When running larger heavier tires, the factory tire rack and tailgate hinge can weaken and possibly break due to the weight and stress on the components. The Rugged Ridge kit replaces both items and allows you to run up to a 37-inch tire without any drilling or permanent modification to the Jeep. In addition to the heavy-duty construction, the reinforced tailgate design allows you to open and close the factory tailgate in the same way as the stock hinge. There are no additional moving components or the need to run an aftermarket bumper with a tire carrier. The kit also includes a third brake light extension in order to retain the same factory look.

Construction: The hinge is made of a heavy-duty cast aluminum and the tire carrier is made of steel. Both components are powder coated in a textured black finish, which makes it very durable and offers great protection against corrosion. The entire system is tested to MIL-STD-810 to recreates elevated stress and vibrations encountered while off-roading.

Installation: The installation is straightforward and can be done with basic hand tools. It’s important to have a series of wood planks in order to wedge under the tailgate when removing the hinges, this ensures that the tailgate doesn’t shift during the removal and installation of the hinges. The installation should take about 1 hour and the entire system comes with a great 5-year limited warranty.
