Magic… what to say? It’s all around you isn’t it? When things are going well you feel it, and you know it’s real and it’s in the air and in your blood and the whole of your being is electric and easy and perfect and you could almost laugh at it, the timing, the luck, the magic.

And then we get cocky. We think it’s us. We think it’s ours. We think we did it. Earned it. Deserve it. We think we’re special. We’re being rewarded - and like that it slips away.

Gone. And it was never yours. Not to have or to hold or to own. You make it about you and the magic slips out the back. And you’re alone and wretched in the world, full of yourself and rotten about it. All that magic, that sizzling connection to everything and everyone that was so real just a second ago, leaves no sign that it was even here except the empty awful feeling of being gone, being scraped out, hopeless and aimless and never so alone.
