Описание к видео Australia's Unemployment Crisis Explained

Australia Jobs Slowdown: Unemployment Hits 4-Year High

Australia’s job market showed clear signs of cooling in September as unemployment rose to 4.5% — the highest level in nearly four years. The data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed that employment growth was weaker than expected, raising concerns about the country’s economic momentum heading into 2026.

While full-time employment increased and total hours worked rose by 0.5%, the overall job creation wasn’t strong enough to absorb the surge in the labour force. The participation rate climbed to 67.0%, showing more Australians are actively seeking work amid tighter business conditions.

Economists say the rise in unemployment reflects the impact of higher interest rates, slow consumer spending, and global demand weakness — especially from China, one of Australia’s key trading partners.

For the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), this data could be a turning point. If inflation remains stable, the RBA might consider cutting interest rates in coming months to support economic activity and avoid a deeper slowdown.

This shift in Australia’s labour market could also influence the Australian Dollar (AUD) and investor confidence. The coming months will determine whether this is a soft landing — or a warning sign of broader economic weakness.

Unemployment rate rises to 4.5%, highest since 2021

Job growth weaker than expected in September

Full-time jobs up, but participation rate also higher
