Mega Man X5 ~ Zero Combo Techniques【Tutorial】

Описание к видео Mega Man X5 ~ Zero Combo Techniques【Tutorial】

We're visiting Mega Man X5 (PS1) to explore most known tech for Zero that revolves around his combo kit, all bundled into one tutorial/guide video for convenience. These same combo mechanics apply to X6 Zero (with the obvious exception of different special attacks from bosses), but not X4 Zero. X4 Zero is where the SDC and normal dash/jump cancelling originated from, but he can't use the turnaround tech from the second saber slash. But I'm getting a little ahead of myself here. Let's get some introductions out the way.

The purpose of this guide is to demonstrate (as well as educate) the potential of Zero in Mega Man X5, since he's heavily looked over in this game. Most of that is due to the half chance you could end up losing him forever via the bad ending. But more importantly, many disregard his kit as an X4 copy and paste with an inferior moveset. While that's true to a certain degree, X5 Zero introduced mechanics such as Crouch Cancelling (saber moves cancelled via ducking) and quick turnaround tech. All of this is explained in detail in the video, but upon closer study and experimenting, Zero in this game has a powerful tool kit that's even more powerful than X4's. Not to mention his combo potential is exponentially more clean when you factor in that SDC wasn't even supposed to BE intended tech.

...I'm sure I'm going to get comments saying "how is it unintended when it was in X5 and X6, too?!"

Easy: SDC wasn't even a KNOWN technique until the PSX era of X games got a little older. When speedrunning began to take off with more popularity, SDC became common knowledge after a while. Also, you have to consider that X4-X6 were all released within a four year timeframe at the very end of the 1990s into early 2000, and the internet wasn't as huge of a resource as it is today for knowledge on such tech. By the time SDC was commonly known after X6, it was already too late. But X7, X8 and the Zero games on GBA all have this tech completely absent (not exactly in Zero 1's case, since SDC got unintentionally replaced by something even MORE broken, but I digress). But enough of the history lesson.

As much as Zero's technique mapping is very flawed in comparison to X4 and X6 (because apparently that Z-Buster was SO good enough to have it's own special button...), W-Shredder messing up SDC is a lifesaver for the character. In a twist of irony, it unintentionally fixed unintentional tech before it even know it was there. Let that sink in for a bit...

Like mentioned before, a good deal of this is already-known tech, but considering X5 gets enough flack as is (Zero especially), this is meant to do him justice and demonstrate his true potential in modern day. He's got his flaws, but for what he was intended to be without broken exploits, X5 did a solid job with his kit, and it mostly added on to what X4 initially established for him.
