In this video we are demonstrating the Bar Linkages Kit (ES15) in the Engineering Science range from TecQuipment. Bar linkages are one of the most basic mechanisms used in mechanical engineering – scissors are an example of one of the most simplest forms of linkages.

The kit itself consists of a set of bars and pivot joints for students to understand different bar linkages and mechanisms and how motion is converted from one to another. It uses several different linkages to show you how: to convert circular motion to an arc, and the limitations of the mechanisms that do this, convert rotary motion to linear (i.e. straight line) motion and how linkages may be used to magnify or reduce the scale of a drawing.
