[Lecture] Daniel R. Russel - The United States and Southeast Asia: Economic and Security Partners

In this lecture, Mr Daniel R. Russel shares four reasons why U.S. will continue and further deepen the economic and security partnership with Southeast Asia:

1) As world's economic centre of gravity shifts to Asia Pacific, U.S. can grow together with Asia Pacific in sharing prosperity by partnering with countries in the region who can come out with new innovative solutions to big problems faced

2) Nuclear tests by N. Korea, and other security challenges bring U.S. and the region together to strengthen security partnership

3) long term importance in institution building helps promote a world's based order

4) support and help in moral imperative to human rights and freedom

Daniel Russel is the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary on July 12, 2013, Mr. Russel served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President and National Security Council (NSC) Senior Director for Asian Affairs.
