Introduction to Orthodox Liturgics, part 2

Описание к видео Introduction to Orthodox Liturgics, part 2

Hierodeacon Herman (Majkrzak) addresses the St Juliana Society at St Vladimir’s Seminary, Yonkers, New York, on Monday, June 6, 2016. (This is a remake of a lecture originally given on March 21.)

Lecture 1 (   • Introduction to Orthodox Liturgics, p...  ) gave a bird's-eye view of the entire liturgical year. In Lecture 2, we narrow our focus down to one service—Saturday evening Great Vespers—and one specific part of that service: the stichera at Lord, I Call.

Topics covered:
The structure and meaning of Great Vespers, and how it differs from Daily Vespers.
The ranks of liturgical solemnity, in particular simple, double, polyeleos, and vigil-rank services.
Several examples of combinations of stichera at Saturday evening Vespers, as determined by the relevant commemorations from the Menaion or Triodion.
