Did you know Janet Jackson's "Doesn't Really Matter" was covered in another language?

"Papillon" by Hitomi Shimatani is a Japanese-language cover of Janet's "Doesn't Really Matter". Janet was initially hesitant to give Hitomi clearance to cover the song. Fearing the lyrics differed from her image of the song. The Katakana lyrics of "Papillon" include such cultural themes as lotus flowers, gods, beliefs, dreams, and smiles. Jackson eventually cleared the song stating that she appreciated seeing the song lyrics to "Doesn't Really Matter" arranged in an Asian style.

"Papillon" reached the top 15 of Japan's Oricon Singles Chart. Staying on the chart for 20 weeks, selling over 200,000 copies, and helping to launch Hitomi into mainstream in Japan.

Additionally, Janet Jackson's Global superstar status was reaffirmed when when the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) awarded "Doesn't Really Matter" with a Japan Gold Disc Award for "Top Selling Song of the Year by a Foreign Artist"
