Ladies and germs, this one is as good as it gets! One of the all-around best early soul sides - killer singing, playing, dynamics, presence, production, recording, mastering, and overall feel. My favorite kind of girl group number - no gloss, all grit, and exciting raw post-gospel harmony and wailing! It plays a little trick on you with the "Work Song" intro before getting right down to the real nitty gritty and not letting go for two and a half minutes of pure ecstasy. And this heavy beast blows massive out of a night club system - shaking your from your nose all the way down to your toes. Like a number of my favorite tracks, San Francisco's excellent DJ Primo originally hipped me to this one, and like a number of my favorite tracks, this one is produced by Andre Williams... This time in his killer early-1960s Chicago period with frequent collaborator writer/producer/musician Karl Tarleton... It appears that this is the only release for Len Dre Records, giving them a perfect 1000 batting average. Also not much is known The Kavetts, who a year later would hit the studio with the legendary duo of producer Carl Davis and arranger Johnny Pate to record a second and final record as The Kavettes for Okeh - Tarleton's "You Broke Your Promise" b/w "I'm Not Sorry For You." My only complaint is that I wish these amazing ladies left behind one or two more like this - but I guess in some respects that's what makes this one gem so special.
