Tips for Beginners in Karate: There are several ways to Tie your Belt, or "obi" in Japanese, and this is just one way that I learned as a beginner and what I teach my students. The Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, can be any cloth material used to wrap / protect / keep your belt in. I use a piece of an old worn out karate Gi with a Japanese proverb message I had sown on the inside that reads :
" Seven Times Down, Eight Times Up". Basically it means don't quit when things get tough, persevere, press on and keep fighting. karate, Okinawan karate, kata, self - defense, train
