Starting at Capanna Alpina parking lot, our hike leads us to an ever steeper getting path up to Col de Locia always surrounded by Cima Lagazuoi and Cima Conturines. Once up there, the Alpe di Fanes Grande opens up for a beautiful hike through the mythical Kingdom of Fanes.
There is many options up here like going all the way via Passo Lima, Rifugio Fanes, and Forcella de Medesc back to Badia. Another option is quickly turning right up to Forcella di Lago and return to Capanna Alpina via Lago Lagazuoi and Rifugio Scottoni (my favorite of Scottoni was open).
We took it easy and just went to Ütia di Gran Fanes for a picnic - a beautiful mountain pasture in front of us, Vallon Bianco to our right and Taè to our left leading the view all the way to Monte Cristallo on the other side of the Cortina valley.
As Scottoni was not an option - I once had a gorgeous pine risotto there - our picnic was a focaccia with coppa stagionata and cheese, nuts and apple slices - not a bad option either.

Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites. And, please, respect no fly zones - Parco Naturale Fanes-Sennes-Braies is like all natural and national parks in Italy such a no fly zone.
