Not much goes on in this video...just a tiny dwarf mottled henricia (Henricia pumila) crawling amidst the purple urchins (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) which have burrowed into the shale reefs at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. For the longest time, I was sure this was some sort of immature blood star (Henricia leviscula) but I've seen a lot of these since and have come to understand that they are not blood stars but a newly documented species which remains consistently smaller than blood stars and their colors are more like a persian rug than an outpouring of blood. Seldom larger than a few inches in diameter, their colors and patterning are varied and almost magical.
