The band achieved mainstream success after signing with Roadrunner Records in 1999. Their breakthrough came with the 2002 single "How You Remind Me," which topped the charts in the United States and Canada. The song was part of their album "Silver Side Up," which was certified 8× Platinum in Canada. Their follow-up album, "The Long Road" (2003), included the hit single "Someday," which reached number one in Canada and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nickelback's best-selling album, "All the Right Reasons" (2005), featured several top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Photograph," "Far Away," and "Rockstar." "Rockstar" also became their biggest success in the United Kingdom. The band continued to produce hit singles with their sixth album, "Dark Horse" (2008), which included the U.S. top ten track "Gotta Be Somebody." In 2011, their album "Here and Now" topped the Canadian charts. They have since released "No Fixed Address" (2014), "Feed the Machine" (2017), and "Get Rollin'" (2022).

Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful Canadian rock bands, having sold over 50 million albums worldwide. In 2009, Billboard named them the most successful rock group and the seventh-most successful artist of the decade, with "How You Remind Me" recognized as the best-selling rock song and fourth-best overall. In 2023, Nickelback was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Formation (1995):
Nickelback originated as a cover band called Village Idiot, formed by brothers Michael and Chad Kroeger, their cousin Brandon Kroeger, and Ryan Peake. The name Nickelback was inspired by the nickel in change that Mike Kroeger gave customers at his job at Starbucks, often saying, "Here's your nickel back." Initially performing covers of songs by Led Zeppelin and Metallica, Chad Kroeger later sought a loan from his stepfather to fund their first demo, resulting in a seven-track EP of original material titled "Hesher" (1996). The band spent half the loan on recording the EP and the other half on purchasing and reselling magic mushrooms.

Nickelback's persistence and evolving musical style, blending rock with post-grunge influences, eventually led them to become one of the most enduring and commercially successful bands in rock music. Their combination of catchy melodies, relatable lyrics, and a consistent output of hit songs has secured their place in music history.
