Early on the first day of the week
While it was still dark
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb...
The air was cool, just before sunrise
But nothing could dispel the weight of grief
And then, the unexpected
The stone was rolled away
Inside, it was empty
He was gone! But where?
Mary, all in a panic, ran to the disciples
He’s gone…where have they taken him
The disciples ran too
Their hearts racing
Going into the empty tomb
Seeing that the burial clothes had been discarded
So much emotion
Mary weeping
Consumed by grief and loss
Comforted by the angels
But still not recognising Jesus in her midst
The risen Jesus
And then...a voice
A word…a name…Mary
One word, and everything changed
To know herself known by Jesus
Not just known, but affirmed and loved
It was life changing!
Then a word of encouragement…go
Go and tell
Don’t cling to me
But go
Jesus says to us today
Don’t box me in
Don’t hold on to what was
Don’t hang on to the memory
Of 2000 years ago
Even though it is precious
But go and live it out
Embrace the dawn
Live out the hope of resurrection
And shine!
