Описание к видео Decomposed Wild Boar Carcass Found Near Joida Drinking Water Source; Officials Rule Out Health Risk

By The News Observer Desk,

Joida, Uttara Kannada:
A decomposed carcass of a wild boar was found in a natural water stream (nala) near the Hudsa drinking water supply project that provides water to Joida taluk headquarters, triggering concern among local residents. However, officials have clarified that there is no threat to public health, as the animal’s death was due to natural causes and the affected stream is not connected to the drinking water supply system.
Following the detection of the carcass, officials from the Forest Department and the Animal Husbandry Department rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. A post-mortem examination carried out by a veterinary officer confirmed that the wild boar had died a natural death, with no signs of gunshot injury or foul play. The carcass was found in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Joida Taluk Panchayat Development Officer stated that the public need not panic, as the carcass was located at a safe distance from the drinking water source. Echoing this assurance, Joida Gram Panchayat PDO Mohan Dombar clarified that the nala where the carcass was found does not supply water to the Hudsa drinking water tank, and therefore poses no contamination risk to the public water system.
Concerns Over Hygiene and Monitoring
Despite official assurances, the incident has once again brought attention to the poor sanitation and maintenance around the Hudsa drinking water supply infrastructure. Local residents have alleged that the area behind the water tank has long been neglected, with decaying animal remains, waste accumulation, and rusted iron rods from a damaged tank roof creating an unhygienic environment.
Residents claim that repeated warnings and media reports highlighting the deteriorating condition of the drinking water facility were ignored by the Gram Panchayat authorities and elected representatives. The fact that the animal carcass went unnoticed until it reached a highly decomposed state has raised serious questions about regular monitoring and accountability of officials responsible for water quality and public health.
Environmental activists have also pointed out that the area falls under the Pansoli wildlife forest range, making regular inspection by the Forest Department crucial. They have urged the authorities to identify the exact cause of death, follow departmental protocols for disposal of animal carcasses, and strengthen surveillance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Public opinion in Joida suggests that negligence in maintaining drinking water sources and surrounding areas could pose severe health risks if left unaddressed. Residents have demanded immediate cleanup operations, structural repairs to the water tank, and routine inspections to ensure safe and hygienic drinking water for the town.
