Wear the Attitude will be first introduced at the after-school program of John D. Sloat Elementary on Friday, April 20th, because the students have personally asked for help as they believe that bullying is one of the biggest problems at their school. Wear the Attitude takes the form of a workshop in which children participate in a dialogue about the causes and effects of bullying and ways to stop it, and will create a design to be printed on t-shirts for the students to wear and keep. The t-shirts will become a visual campaign where the viewer and wearer are instantly connected, without the need of spoken words, into a greater dialogue. By wearing the shirts, the children will create a silent fashion statement that will remind people about bullying, creating awareness and sensibility.
Finally, SAHC believes that a visual statement will widen the dialogue about bullying by taking it out of schools, and introducing it to neighborhoods and homes, with the hopes of preventing and stopping bullying. It is our goal and purpose that to explore and expand the power of art while triggering positive changes in our community, and we belie that Wear the Attitude will promote change.
