Let’s rank the 10 best games in the Zelda series as we celebrate 40 years of Nintendo’s the Legend of Zelda video game franchise in this nostalgic retrospecive. This includes both 2D games like A Link to the Past and 3D Zelda games like Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, but no spin-offs.

My top three are Twilight Princess from Nintendo Gamecube and Wii, The Wind Waker from Gamecube, and the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time from the Nintendo 64. I spent 3 years playing twilight princess on Wii and it had a great story and a dark tone. It had many Zelda dungeons and zelda temples and a big world to explore. Not as big as Hyrule in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom but for the time it was very impressive. Wind Waker has a colorful cel shaded art style but an emotional and intense story. You are Toon Link, hero of the winds, and you explore the ocean to save Princess Zelda and stop Ganondorf. The N64 classic Ocarina of Time made the jump from 2D to 3D and had an epic story, amazing graphics, catchy music, memorable characters and more. The hero of time must travel through time with the Master Sword to save Zelda and the Kingdom of Hyrule and stop Ganon. It had the Deku Tree, the Kokiri, Zoras, Gorons, Gerudos, and much more. It expanded the Zelda lore and mythology and split the Zelda timeline into 3 universes and led to the sequel Majoras Mask.
