Does the Icom 9700 still drift??? NEW Firmware Tested!

Has the drift issues related to WSJT-X in the Icom 9700 been fixed? Has the new firmware update fixed it? Well in this video I put my new Icom 9700 to the test using WSPR. The radio was set to 30W and being received by my remote station (GPS locked).

A disclaimer about this video:

All tests are easily reproducible with appropriate test gear

This issue was reportedly resolved in firmware version 1.11 (Synchronizing to REF IN feature added)

All "drift" is still within stability specs of the radio over a 10 degree temperature range (although the spec is over a 70 degree range)

The IC-9700 is a fantastic radio, I absolutely LOVE IT!!! My main purpose for it is as a VHF/UHF base rig running WSPR when I am not available or near the radio so I can ascertain band conditions. I'll mainly be running WSPR on 2m.

Some IC-9700 users have found their oscillator has a foam cover over it. I haven't opened the cover of my radio to find out, so your mileage may vary (i.e. some users report no drift now).

The purpose of these tests is to show the real world results and to show that Icom has improved the problem somewhat and in most use cases (FT8, JT65 etc) users will not see a problem on 144 MHz.
