Recently, the Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the 18th Uttarpradesh State of Forest Report 2023 (UP SFR 2023).

The 2023 India State of Forest Report (ISFR) highlights that Uttar Pradesh (UP) experienced a significant increase in forest and tree cover:
Forest cover: Increased by 156 sq km
Tree cover: Increased by 1,289 sq km
Total green cover: Increased to 9.23% of the state's geographical area
This increase is due in part to the state's annual plantation drive, Vriksharopan Janandolan 2023, where over 30 crore saplings were planted.
