Hearing a Corn Bunting call is one of the sounds of summer and my childhood, with a good population of red list Corn Buntings, Emberiza calandra, still doing well close to my mother's house, where I grew up, near Dartford, Kent, England. Corn Bunting song is often described as a "jangling of keys" and it is definitely better described as a call than birdsong. In 2021 I was able to spend plenty of time listening to Corn Bunting call and watching this bird, one that I studied in detail for my BSc dissertation. The sound of a Corn Bunting call is one that becomes ever-rarer in British birding so I consider myself lucky to be able to watch these birds whenever I am in UK.
