Bleeding Heart Sound Check - Royal Albert Hall - Learn the 1st 12 Bars

There is enough Jimi genius in the first 12 bars to keep you busy for a long time. My new saying is "Jimi is the gift that keeps on giving." It's endless. This is a track from his 02-24-1969 Royal Albert Hall concert and this is one of three songs they recorded during the afternoon sound check. I love how he improvises over a simple 12 bar blues. It is in the key of C but I am tuned down 1/2 step so it looks like I am playing in C# or Db. Jimi played a lot of songs in that position on the neck because it is perfect for a lot of low open string licks on the E, A, and D strings. Hopefully you can find this track on the internet somewhere. A friend gave it to me and it is one of my favorites. Jimi's lightening speed is hard to accomplish but it gives you something to work towards. It is so cool to see, in today's world of shredding savants, a genius take a simple 5 note pentatonic scale in one or two positions and make it new, innovative and refreshing every time.

It is highly recommended to tune down 1/2 step and use a .015" G string at least and also the .032" and .038" A and E strings if they are not too light for you. Mine are 10,13,15,26,36,46. You can hurt your hand if you are not careful with the two whole step bend at the beginning. Jimi's hand was obviously very strong. You can also hurt your hand by doing a lot of the index finger bends so be sure you warm up before you attempt these. Dropping to a 9 ga. set might help. I should do that myself.
