In this installment of the View from the Back of the Band series, we have the Thom Bell and Linda Creed tune People Make the World Go Round as arranged by Nicholas Payton.
This is a slow, funky tune with lots of odd meter measures, which makes it tricky to read and follow during the solo sections.
This performance is from a Nicholas Payton tribute concert at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, NC, on 8/1/25.
The Performers are Curtis Taylor, Trumpet; Ziad Rabie, Tenor Sax; Sean Higgins, Piano; William Ledbetter, Bass; and Rick Dior, Drums
These tribute gigs typically consist of a single short rehearsal followed by the concert. You must possess the interpretive skills to read a basic lead sheet, as I demonstrate on the screen here.
Please excuse the harsh audio as this room is a giant glass box and I am using 2 cell phones to record and video the performance. You may want to listen with headphones so you can hear the audio more clearly.
