Milt Kahl wasn’t without his flaws. He had a terrible temper, and was extremely competitive, always wanting to one-up Phyllis. He was also known to be extremely arrogant. Milt once told Marc Davis that his character Medusa would “wipe his Cruella off the screen.” Obviously that never happened (and might be why I included Cruella here 😉). But regardless of her success, Medusa was Milt’s favorite character that he ever created, and he animated all of her scenes personally.

Lillian Disney never wanted her husband Walt to have Phyllis involved at the studio. She called her “too flighty” and was afraid she would hurt Walt. But Phyllis did work with George Hurrell in their production company on Disney studio property and they made many TV commercials, some starring Disney characters. Phyllis was known to be a hard-living, chain-smoking, abrasive, stubborn, and hard-working woman who loved to 🍸(which was a major point of contention in her marriage to Milt).

Disney Animator Jane Baer (who knew both Milt and Phyllis) once said, “Phyllis wore boots. Medusa wore the same boots. In that scene where she’s pulling off the eyelashes, I said, ‘That’s Phyllis. You just knew.’”
