Star lock washer

One way to increase the installation speed of a stick system curtain wall is to use star lock washers for the pins working only in shearing. These washers have a specific geometry, slightly spring loaded against the pin, making them very easy to insert from one direction but very difficult to remove in the opposite way (they grip into the surface of the pin).

It reduces the bolts tightening times and the risk of over tightening that could compress the bracket against the mullion.

This has some exclusions of course, not to be used in high seismic zones, in high rise buildings subjected to large story drifts or when the bracket projects too much outside of the structure and the bolts are needed to reduce the bracket blades buckling distance (when they take axial efforts).
