Out from the mist of ancient lands,
Where fires burned through distant sands,
Celts did gather, priests in tow,
On Samhain night when shadows grow!
The end of harvest, the sun fades fast,
Darkness descends, the veil won’t last,
They lit the fires, spirits roam free,
The night of Hallow's Eve was born to be!
Raise the flames, light the sky,
Let the spirits come by!
Warding off the souls unseen,
That’s the birth of Halloween!
The dead could walk, the fairies play,
In wild abandon until dawn’s first ray,
Offerings laid to keep peace in line,
Lest the lost ones cross that dreaded line.
Pumpkins carved to scare away,
Evil spirits that love to stray,
Turnips first, then orange gleam,
The Jack-O'-Lanterns in the night stream!
Raise the flames, light the sky,
Let the spirits come by!
Celtic myths and Catholic scenes,
Brew the lore of Halloween!
But Rome came marching, tried to own,
What the ancient Celts had known,
To All Saints’ Day, they changed the tune,
And thus was born All Hallows' Moon.
But the dead kept rising, the tales lived on,
From Samhain's dusk to the Christian dawn!
Crossed the seas to American soil,
Irish immigrants kept the toil,
"Trick or treat!" the children cry,
Ghostly masks, under darkened sky!
Candy swapped for ancient frights,
On Halloween, the spirits take flight,
From bonfires bold to streets of glee,
Halloween grew wild and free!
Raise the flames, light the sky,
Let the spirits come by!
The past and present intertwine,
In the night of Halloween's spine!
So hear the tale, the ages bring,
Of Samhain night, the haunting ring!
Halloween’s not just candy’s dream,
It's an ancient rite, a ghostly scheme!
From Celtic fires to modern night,
We celebrate that hallowed fright!
