DEMOS FROM THE BASEMENT: AMPSAMPS Model WT4

This video features my four watt WT4 amplifier.

The WT4 is a Class A single-ended amp that features a single EL84 in the power section and a 12AX7 preamp. Single volume control, high and low impedance inputs, speaker and line out jacks.

The inspiration for this amp was the Moviola URS & Ediquip 1027a squawk box amps. The Moviolas are awesome, but not loud enough for me. So I studied the Moviola circuit, as well as the front end of my favorite Valco low-wattage combo amps, increased the voltage and the size of the output transformer, and swapped the 6AQ5 for an EL84. The result was loud enough, but not too loud to crank at home. Pair with your favorite 4 ohm speaker and you’re good to go.

About halfway in I go from a close and room mic setup to close and direct in from the amp’s line out. Possibly not everyone’s cup, but seemed unique and inspiring to me, so I went with it.

A few additional notes, I have done versions of these with the “American/British” switch (this unit is set on British), and can add a line out level on the back as well.
