"I feel that there is an improvement. I would like it to be higher but little by little, it (referring to the treatment of the LGBTQ community) is moving (forward) step by step. So, I consider, like many people, that they are already accepting the community, and not only accepting, but understanding that a great majority also feel special and that being homosexual, being gay, being lesbian, being trans, doesn't make you different, you are still a person."

STORYLINE:
Thousands marched through the streets of the of Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Sunday as the city hosted its Pride event.

The massive celebration also sought to highlight the struggles members of the LGBTIQ+ community experience in Venezuela.

"We deserve respect,” said participant Daniela Castillo.

"We don't deserve discrimination, (we want to live) without being judged, without having to seek someone else's approval.”

While some members of the LGBTIQ+ community who took part in the march said they had faced prejudice, others felt changes were beginning to take root in the South American country.

"I feel that there is an improvement," said Samuel Vera, a pastry chef and drag queen.

"I would like it to be greater."
