The need to act on climate change is pressing. Policies that aim to foster a cleaner economy are likely to have an impact on employment and the demand for skills. Already today, skills shortages are recognised as bottlenecks in green sectors, constraining innovation and technology. Governments should understand the changes ahead to prepare adult learning systems, adjust employment policies and facilitate job transitions.

Career guidance plays a critical role in delivering sustainability goals and a just transition to a green economy. It plays an important and growing role by supporting skills and jobs for the green economy; delivering crucial labour market information to job-seekers, employees and employers alike; and enables the transition from declining sectors to new and emerging green jobs. Skills assessment and anticipation can provide key information and data to enable career advisors and professionals to deliver their services.

This webinar presents an opportunity to learn from approaches that are being undertaken internationally. We will be hearing from Dzana Topalovic at the OECD, discussing international approaches in this space, as well as Lina Aldred, who will provide an example of how to navigate labour and skills shortages linked to the green transitions in northern Sweden.
